Julian Shao first came to photography in his home country before moving to Japan in 2019. The following year, he entered Tokyo University of the Arts.
Since 2021, he has studied under photographer Tatsuya Ida, gaining experience in cosplay and gravure photography while also working as a photographic assistant.
In 2024, Julian began working independently, taking on commissioned shoots and professional projects. The following year, he founded Ameno Arts Bridge, a creative circle dedicated in part to supporting Japanese cosplayers appearing at overseas events.
His photographic practice is guided by an artistic sensibility, with particular attention to the relationship between people, space, and atmosphere. Through his work, he seeks to bring out the quiet beauty of both the subject and the surrounding scene.
